Bill Heck, Liza Colon-Zayas, Frankie R. Faison & More Set for Pulitzer Prize-Winning Play Water By the Spoonful

Liza Colon-Zayas, Tony nominee Frankie R. Faison, Bill Heck and more will star in the New York premiere of Quiara Alegria Hudes’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Water by the Spoonful, at Second Stage. Directed by Davis McCallum, the previously announced production will begin performances December 11 at off-Broadway’s Second Stage Theatre and officially open on January 8, 2013.

In addition to Colon-Zayas, Faison and Heck, Water By the Spoonful stars Zabryna Guevara, Sue Jean Kim and Armando Riesco. The play tells the story of Elliot, who, after serving time in Iraq, returns home to Philadelphia to connect with his Puerto Rican family. But when he arrives, he discovers his family’s life is changing. As his mother’s online support group starts to overshadow his aspirations for the future, the online world and the world of reality collide. Water by the Spoonful is the second in a trilogy of plays that include Hudes’ Elliot, A Solider’s Fugue and The Happiest Song Plays Last. The play won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Colon-Zayas starred in the world premiere of Water by the Spoonful at Hartford Stage. Her off-Broadway credits include Othello, The Little Flower of East Orange, Our Lady of 121st Street and In Arabia, We’d All Be Kings. Faison earned a Tony nomination for Fences, and has appeared on Broadway in Getting Away With Murder, The Shadow Box and Of Mice and Men. Heck appeared on Broadway in Brooklyn Boy and in Shakespeare in the Park’s The Merchant of Venice.
